"The Shape of Things to Come" is a six-chapter art rock film that delves into themes of nostalgia for the future, uncertainties of technological progress, and the quest for authentic human connection. Through original songwriting, poetry, performance art, and insights of Terence McKenna, the film offers a creative exploration of our innovative nature and challenges us to consider how the very technology we create might ultimately pose risks to our well-being.
Video, Music & Text: written, recorded, edited and performed by Tommy Becker / Additional text by Terence McKenna
“A six-chapter audiovisual dispatch from the outer limits of art rock, glitch collage, and poetic prophecy. Channeling the DIY spirit of Terence McKenna’s wired consciousness and the neon ghosts of educational reels past, this multimedia song-cycle grapples with techno-utopianism, future nostalgia, and the fragile, flickering nature of human connection. Nostradamus with a camcorder and a drum machine.” - Chicago Underground Film Festival
